Consumer Protection Notice
Texas law requires every real estate license holder to provide consumers with information about the Texas Real Estate Commission and how to file complaints.
The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) is the state agency that regulates real estate brokers and sales agents, real estate inspectors, home warranty companies, easement and right-of-way agents, and timeshare interest providers.
Filing a Complaint
You can ask questions or file a complaint about a real estate license holder by contacting TREC at:
Real Estate Recovery Trust Account
The Real Estate Recovery Trust Account (the "Trust Account") is available to reimburse aggrieved consumers who, after final judgment, are unable to recover from a real estate license holder for damages caused by certain violations of the Real Estate License Act. The maximum amount that may be recovered from the Trust Account for a single transaction is $50,000.
Information about the Trust Account and the claim process is available from TREC.
